The Canadian Council for the Americas (CCA-Alberta), HSBC Canada, and the International Offices and Trade Division of Alberta International and Intergovernmental Relations, with the support of the Canadian Consulate General in Rio and Export Development Canada, hosted the breakfast seminar PETROBRAS Projects & Opportunities in the Pipeline Market in Brazil 2008. This seminar included presentations from Directors of Transpetro and Petrobras.
Among the speakers were Mr. Marcelo Rennó, Director of Transpetro, Mr. Pedro Altoe and Mr. Danny Aronson from Petrobras. Topics included pipeline equipment needs, technological aspects, and an overview of future projects.

The Brazilian pipeline market is experiencing considerable growth and an increased demand for more diverse services. The Brazilian government has launched a plan to accelerate growth, which represents significant opportunities for companies interested in providing services to Petrobras and Transpetro, the main investors in this new plan. This is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge about potential business opportunities in the Brazilian pipeline market.
Solutions - Technologies - Services
Transpetro and Petrobras require solutions, technologies and services for the construction, operation and maintenance of its pipeline grid in Brazil in these and other areas:
-
SCC - Stress Corrosion Crack - How to foresee SCC in buried pipes
-
AC Interference - state of the art
-
CC Stray Current - state of the art
-
ICDA (Internal Corrosion Direct Assessment) applicable to pipelines and gas pipelines
-
Anti-corrosion application methods for ethanol transportation through pipelines
-
Internal stress corrosion cracking - assessment in pipelines
-
Alternative methods for localization of piping and buried interferences (including the crossing of rivers and lakes)
-
Analysis of data of pipe soil interaction instruments (strain gauge, optical fibre)
-
Methodology for the identification of land movement and interference in the pipeline strip (geo sensor, optical fibre)
-
Methods of construction of pipe crossings using large extension horizontal directional drill systems.
-
Underground storage for natural gas and liquids (gasoline, ethanol, biofuels). This type of system is not used in Brazil yet.
-
Pipe integrity (inspection equipment, pigs, software)/ maintenance and repair/simulators.
-
Construction and maintenance (locations of difficult access like the Amazon forest with emphasis on environmental protection)
-
Welding - new techniques
-
12"pipes (materials)
-
New technologies (nanotechnology)
-
New alloys
-
More resistant coatings (HT)
-
Safety - alarms (in the construction site)
-
Technologies for prevention of pipeline string invasion
-
Remote sensoring
-
Automation - leaking detection systems
-
